LAS CRUCES – A 120-room hotel will be built on the New Mexico State University campus, according to the Albuquerque development team behind the project.

Tentative plans for the four-story property call for it to be branded as a Courtyard by Marriott, according to a news release. Estimated construction costs were not immediately available.

The partnership brings together NMSU’s Aggie Development, Albuquerque developers Prakash Sundaram and Vinodh Perumal of Total Management Systems and Brad Allen and Lance Sigmon of Allen Sigmon Real Estate Group. Total Management and Sigmon previously teamed on the Home 2 Suites extended-stay hotel at 1600 University NE near the Big I.

The Las Cruces hotel is expected to break ground in 2017 and be open for business in 2018. It will be developed on 2.7 acres of university-owned land and be an income-producing asset for the school, according to the release.
